Dear Colleagues,
Last fall, the MRSA Executive made a commitment to “correct any conflicts between the Elections and Voting policy and Constitution prior to the May 2018 General Election.” After much consideration, and in the spirit of opening up access and filling key roles on the Executive, the Governance Committee has suggested changes to our Constitution.
A motion was made and carried by the Executive to amend the Constitution as follows:
The original reads:
- 8.04 Candidates for the positions of President, Vice-Presidents and Treasurer/Secretary must have served a minimum of one (1) year as a representative on the Executive.
The suggested revisions are:
- 8.04 Candidates for the position of President must have served a minimum of one (1) year as a representative on the Executive.
- 8.05 Candidates for the position of Vice President are preferred to have served a minimum of one (1) year as a representative on the Executive.
- 8.06 Candidates for the position of Treasurer are preferred to have served a minimum of one (1) year as a representative on the Executive, and Accounting and/or Financial experience will be considered an asset.
These are the only changes that are proposed at this time.
In keeping with the process of amending the Constitution (Article 22.01), we will be hosting a town hall to discuss the proposed changes with MRSA members in room Y224, at 12:00 p.m. on March 12. An electronic vote will follow after 10 days, on March 27 and 28.
If you have questions on the motion and are unable to attend the town hall, please forward them to the MRSA Office, or drop them into the MRSA mailbox (outside the MRSA Boardroom W301D) no later than March 9. Questions on the motion will be addressed during the presentation.
Thank you,
